I often
wonder, if it should be allowed to use anorexic models? I have just seen a
model's update about gaining weight (49 kg) and in about 7 kilos; she will have
a normal and healthy BMI. And she is supposedly now healthy, she eats normally
and follows a diet to gain weight as well as doing work outs. Looking at her
pictures, I can clearly see that the 7 kilo is needed, her bones is still too
visible.
Though,
she has during her anorexia and even now, had quite a lot of photo shoots, even
when she weighed 38 kilos at a height of 174. I find this a bit repulsive.
First
of all, I don't understand why anyone would work with this model, that anyone
find this aesthetic at all or ethically correct. Why work with a person,
which is clearly not physically or mentally healthy?
I don't understand why photographers are supporting these girls; they
are actually saying it's OK to be unhealthy skinny, when using an
anorexic model. They are also supporting the anorexic in keeping the unhealthy
weight and lifestyle.
I hope, when this model gains weight, photographers still want
to work with her, otherwise there is something really wrong! And I hope that
photographers (amateurs and professionals) going forward would take some
responsibility; responsibility for the models and for all the people seeing the
photos. Responsibility for being some of the inventors of the ideal image,
people are looking up to and wanting to look like.
Note: This also matters for the use of obese or unhealthy plus size models. We shouldn't support anything unhealthy both physically or mentally at all.
